Academic Decathlon

Club Description: Kids are given a set of materials that they study for a semester and then compete against other schools in the county.
When/Where: Meetings are held in room H-13. Please stop by and talk to Mrs. Kessler.
Requirements: Ability to attend and a 2.0 GPA.

 

Band (Instrumental Music)

Club Description: Members of the marching, symphonic, concert, & jazz bands.

Requirements: Membership/enrollment in one of the bands.


 

Campus Light

Club Description: A gathering of Christian students for support, encouragement, prayer, fun and fellowship.

CSF (California Scholarship Federation)

Club Description: Honor's Society
When/Where: 3rd Wednesday of the month in room H-11
Requirements: Membership is determined by grades earned in academic classes. Points are given based on grades earned. An A = 3 points, B = 1 point, an A in an AP course is equal to 4 points, and a B in an AP course is equal to 2 points. Complete information is printed on the application that must be submitted each semester. Membership is not automatic, you must apply each semester.

Club Description: Play games and have fun! 2nd semester we're putting on a one act.
When/Where: Random Mondays in the Drama Room after school until 4:30.

FFA (Future Farmers of America)

Club Description: Agriculture students in all grades are expected to participate in this club. Leadership skills, public speaking, animal projects, and development of financial responsibility are all goals of the FFA.

The Film and Animation Club

Club Advisors: Ms. Spallina and Mrs. Parlin (x231)
Club Description: The club's purpose is to help members advance their video editing, video creating, and video animating skills.  Members will share their ideas and projects with the rest of the club in a fun and safe environment.
When/Where: The Filminators meet every other Friday in the library after school.

Folk Dance Club

Club Advisor: Mrs. Garland (ext.319)
Club Description: Folk Dance Club is about learning about other cultures and shaking your groove thing!
When/Where: Tuesdays after school in F-1.
Requirements: A good attitude and high energy.

 

French Club

Club Description: Cultural activities such as watching French movies, go to French restaurant, go to plays or museums, games in French (such as Scrabble), and caroling in French.
When/Where: Collaboration Days or Wednesdays during lunch.

Club Description:  Gifted and Talented Education is a program designed for students with "gifted" abilities in academics and/or the arts.  GATE sponsors a variety of student activities and programs here at Ponderosa.  Here are several examples:

Requirements:  Students qualify for GATE by demonstrating high intelligence or high achievement as measured on an appropriate test.  Generally, PHS GATE students are identified by our feeder junior high schools.  We accept their recommendations of students for our program.  If a student has not been identified as a GATE student, but appears to have outstanding academic potential, he or she may be evaluated through referrals from parents, teachers, counselors, or the student.

Club Description: Interact is a Rotary sponsored service club. The club gives students an opportunity to participate in fun while serving our school, our community, and our world.

Club Description: ISAW promotes a positive image of young women in our community and on campus. We are active in our community, participating in and organizing several Philanthropic events during the year, and support the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
When/Where: Mondays after school in F-1.
Requirements: A desire to help our community and be a positive role model to others.

Club Description: Service club sponsored by Kiwanis International and Placerville Kiwanis, offering student volunteers for events.
When/Where: Every other Monday @ 6 p.m. in small theater. Officers meet every other Monday @ 5:30 in room S-1.
Requirements: 20 hours of service per year. $10 due, attendance at general meetings (you get 2 excused absences per semester).

Peer Counseling

Club Description: Peer Counseling is a class in which we will explore issues in today's society. Some issues may be controversial and difficult to discuss. Students are expected to keep confidentiality with personal issues discussed among students within the class and during peer counseling sessions.
When/Where: Every day in F-13.
Requirements: Community service, teacher recommendation, confidentiality, interview.

Club Description: Explores the world of robotic technology. Club members learn and use mechatronic methods to design and build robots.

Student Council

Club Description: This organization consists of elected and appointed members of the Associated Student Body. Student Council exists for the purpose of giving students the opportunity experience belonging to and functioning as a part of an elected governmental agency as well as training students in leadership qualities. Student Council members make decisions that can, and often do, affect the total school operation.
When/Where: 5th Period every day.
Requirements:
You must be elected or appointed into Student Council and be a part of the leadership class.
