CONGRATULATIONS TEAM PONDEROSA!
On Saturday, February 7, PHS took first place at this year’s Academic Decathlon held at Oak Ridge High School. The Academic Decathlon provides academic competitions which promote learning and academic excellence through teamwork. A unique aspect of the Academic Decathlon is that it is designed to include students of all academic abilities and achievement levels. Students are tested in the areas of art, economics, essay, interview, literature, math, music, science and speech, and it’s all capped off with the Super Quiz — the highlight of the decathlon where the public is invited to attend.
"The win represents the hard work of the students and strong support of the advisor, Sarah Shintaku,” said Principal Lisa Garrett.
Funding for the El Dorado County Academic Decathlon comes from community sponsors and from the general fund of El Dorado Union High School District. The El Dorado County Office of Education funds a part-time administrative assistant.
Our county program has been successful for more than 30 years due, in part, to the efforts of more than 150 volunteers serving as speech and interview judges, testing proctors, computer programmer, registrar and master of ceremonies. Contributions of time or monetary contributions are gratefully accepted.  (See photo at top.)
